Historical Calendar 1999 White Pass and Yukon Route .

Celebrating 100 years 1898 to 1998.

“The Klondike Gold Rush spawned construction of the White Pass and Yukon route in 1898. The railroad was built to alleviate the hardships of the gruesome trip over the passes to the gold fields in the interior of the Yukon. By the time the railroad was completed in 1900 the rush was over, but the White Pass Railway survived nevertheless. Today it operates as a tourist railroad, taking passengers on spectacular trail excursions between Skagway, Alaska and Carcross, Yukon.”
